The Wynnum West State School Positive Behaviour Program (PBP), is a school-wide initiative committed to providing a safe, respectful and disciplined learning environment. Students have an opportunity to engage in quality learning experiences and acquire values supportive of their lifelong wellbeing.

Our Positive Behaviour Program is based on the following core principles:

  1. To facilitate high standards of behaviour so that the learning and teaching in our school can be effective and students can participate within our school community and the wider community.
  2. To explicitly teach students the expectations we have of them as members of the school and wider community.
  3. To make students aware that their behaviour is an individual choice that has rewards and consequences associated with it.

We have established Four School Rules that are aligned with the values, principles and expected standards outlined in Education Queensland's Code of School Behaviour.

These rules are as follows:

  • Be Respectful
  • Be Responsible
  • Be Safe
  • Be a Learner

WALT - the Wynnum West Water Dragon - is our school behaviour representative. WALT is an acronym for our school philosophy "We Are Learning Today". Whilst the use of a Water Dragon relates to the wildlife of the Wynnum-Manly area, WALT is the embodiment of our behavioural and academic expectations for students.

Our School Creed encompasses the goals and expectations of our Positive Behaviour Program and is a consistent reminder to students of these goals and expectations as well as our Four School Rules.

Our Creed states:

We are the Wynnum West Water Dragons. Water Dragons are Safe, Responsible, Respectful Learners. Everyday counts. Every Dragon can be a High Achiever.

Our Behaviour Management Program is one based on Positive Reward for appropriate choices and behaviours of all students. Children work towards earning WALT / Dojo points for great behaviour. These points are collected over a semester with a celebration at various increments.

We publicly recognise and celebrate positive and productive behaviours through the school Gold Class Rewards Day and Silver and Bronze awards.

We also encourage all students to take ownership of their actions and to work with the consequences of poor choices.
